Geocellular Confinement

Geocellular Confinement takes infill materials and produces a stiff base by creating a semi-rigid slab. The system prevents the lateral displacement of infill materials which eliminates rutting and washboarding usually associated with gravel pavements. The system allows for a reduction in overall base thickness, as well as enabling subgrade materials to withstand more than 10 times the number of cyclic load applications, without the appearance of deflection when compared to unconfined aggregates. GCS allows for the use of lower quality infill materials in situations where quality aggregates are not readily available and helps to create pavements on soft soil subgrades. When it comes to load support in porous paving applications, Cell-Tek's LSG SERIES delivers the competitive advantage.

Greenroof using Cell-Tek

Pictured here is a green a greenroof project in Northern Virginia installed by Capitol Greenroofs www.capitolgreenroof.com .  The greenroof was on a new addition that had a cathedral sloped roof.  The installation of the greenroof comprised of using an Enkadrain root barrier & drainage system.  To stabilize the planting layer the contractor used Cell-Tek's stabilizer grid www.celltekdirect.com made from 100% recycled high density polyethylene.  The stabilizer grid was expanded on to the roof and fastened down using cable tendons that stretched from one side of the roof to the other.  The expanded cells were filled with a premixed lightweight soil.  Then preplanted sedum mats were rolled out to provide instant vegetated covering of the roof.
The Cell-Tek system was the ideal choice to solve the problem of preventing the planted roof from sliding off.  The tendon system also stabilizes the planted layer preventing vertical wind uplift.
